The art of photography—any art actually—is to see what something wants to be and not what we think it is. The subject can be an object, a person, or a moment—but in that moment can the artist reveal something that is timeless and meaningful? Sometimes it is revealed to the artist in an instant, sometimes it takes coaxing and cursing.
This image was taken in the summer of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown. It speaks to me of isolation, contemplation, stillness and movement. What they were thinking and where they were going—I have no idea—but in that one moment this picture was taken they weren’t alone.
