Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs

Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Programs is a Boston-based nonprofit, working at the intersection of environmental science and the arts. Founded in 2011 by Linda Cabot, an artist and sailor, Bow Seat harnesses the power of the creative process to educate young people about the climate crisis and other important ocean conservation issues.

Bow Seat’s flagship program, the annual Ocean Awareness Contest, invites students worldwide to learn about challenges facing our blue planet, imagine possible solutions, and discover new methods of creative communication. After engaging in art-making for the ocean, students connect deeply with environmental issues, develop a personal voice, and often become dedicated ocean advocates.

Bow Seat has engaged with more than 25,000 students in all 50 U.S. states and 133 countries. Bow Seat has awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships.
